Where do you go in Antigua, Guatemala, for some good food, music and company? Cactus Taco-Shop! Especially if you’re really hungry.
I was starving after eating only a small breakfast in Monterrico, and nothing more than a few nachos while I waited for the shuttle bus back to Antigua to arrive at the Hotel El Delfin. My arrival in Antigua coincided with the sky opening up with a deluge. I waited in vain for a rain to stop, which is usually does within an hour or so during the rainy season. Finally my hunger pangs were impossible to ignore, so I made a mad dash to the closest eatery to the hotel, the La Dolce Vita Hotel. That eatery was Cactus Taco-Shop.
Open Tuesdays through Sundays from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm, Cactus Taco-Shop is as much a popular bar as it is a restaurant. However, the fact that locals and tourists alike hang out at the Cactus Taco-Shop while they consume beer and spirits and socialize in no way detracts from the quality of the food. It is delicious, and the servings that are delivered to your table by friendly staff are huge. It is a bit more pricey than other Antigua restaurants serving the same type of food, but the portions make for great value.
A definite thumbs up from this vagabond traveler!
