Cottages are an accommodation option to consider no matter where in the world you’re traveling to. This is especially so if you’re staying at a destination for an extended period of time, or you’re traveling with a group.
The more people who share a cottage the less expensive it can be on a per person basis. This is because cottage rentals generally are for the property as a whole, and are not based on the number of people who will be in residence. Occasionally there is a small, per person surcharge which is to cover the additional housekeeping, laundry and water usage. When a per person surcharge is applicable, it is usually only applied to adult guests, not children. It is best to always ask when renting a cottage what the policy pertaining to additional guests is.
The longer the stay in a cottage is, the lower the cost of a per night stay is. Almost all cottage rental situations offer nightly, weekly and monthly rates. The longer the stay the greater the discount that is offered outright, or that can be negotiated.
Almost all cottage rental situations will have some sort of a rental rate already advertised. However, prices are negotiable to some extent. Usually a single night stay, or even a few nights is not significant enough to justify a significant discount. Stays of a week or more though may find the cottage owner open to negotiation. If there is no weekly or monthly discounted price posted online or included in literature, ask for one.
There are opportunities to rent cottages in the mountains, in forests or on the shores of lakes, rivers or the ocean. Sometimes the cottage is a stand alone property, while other times it may be one of a cluster of cottages that are for rent. No matter which scenario, cottages can be a fun and/or relaxing choice of accommodation, or one that’s very romantic.
