Our Global Trek

global-trekStarting April 16th, 2014, the Vagabond Travel crew intended to start out from Mexico City on a 365 day trek around the world. The purpose of the adventure was two fold. 1. We wanted to showcase our planet as the amazing place it is, full of wondrous man made and natural creations. 2. We also wanted to use videos, photos and the written word to clearly express how similar people are no matter where in the world they live.

Although the original goal has not changed, the time frame has been extended… to forever. There is no way we can go from daily travel adventures, seeing new sights and meeting new people back to a daily grind of a life. So, for as long as there is air to breath, seeing what is over the next horizon will be the secondary goal. The new Vagabond Travel base of operations is Granada, Nicaragua, because it is insanely affordable here. Money not spent providing a roof over one’s head or food on the table is money that can be used to trek on, right?

Sue Bedford continued the trek, finally circumnavigating the globe to end back in her hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada pretty much on schedule. Len Bowcott suffered a misadventure in Honduras that resulted in his having to stay for a prolonged period in Nicaragua… then he didn’t want to leave. Ane-Maria Bandrabur of Toronto, Ontario, Canada will be joining the Vagabond Travel team shortly, at which time the adventure will continue.

Mark Twain once said, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” Not everyone has the time or funds to travel as much as is needed to truly know this planet and the people living here. That’s why Vagabond Travel decided to wander the planet and record all that we see, do and learn along the way. It’s our hope that by sharing our travels and discoveries we’ll help dispel some of the prejudices, bigotry and narrow-mindedness that poisons humanity. We at Vagabond Travel firmly believe that a world inhabited by people who know and understand each other, is a world in which evil men of evil intentions are unable to ferment fear and loathing to further evil agendas.

Vagabond

Vagabond Travel came into being April 16, 2014 when I departed Canada heading for Mexico City. I have no destination in mind, nor an itinerary to follow. This is a sort of website, journal and travel blog all rolled into one. That's about it.

  1. Take care of our Bedford!

  2. I have a friend living in Thailand, who travels constantly throughout Southeast Asia. He has lived there now for 4 years and spends less that US$6000 annually. He’s a frugal fellow though, owning a motor-scooter and very few other possessions. In fact if it will not fit in his backpack he does not own it. He told me his rent budget is US$200 a month, which apparently is quite possible when renting longer term. He never stays in hotels or hostels.

I hope this helps… my personal experience is in Nicaragua, even though I was born in Costa Rica. Nicaragua is about the same cost of living as Thailand, so I relocated here because I am more comfortable living in a Spanish speaking community..
