Hostels

hostel-iconHostels are an affordable alternative to hotel and resort stays in almost every country in the world. Traditionally hostels offered dorm room beds with common use showers and washrooms and were short on amenities. This is no longer true… Many hostels now offer very inexpensive dorm beds, but also offer affordable private rooms with en suite bathrooms. Amenities in hostels can now include bars or even nightclubs, snack bars and amazingly well equipped common area lounges with WiFi, wide screen TVs, and so on. Kitchens are usually large and fully equipped, and some offer rental cars, bicycles, and even motor-scooters. Many hostels also offer city tours or have partnered with local tour companies to provide their guests with discounted tours.

In the old days hostels had reputations for being unclean or unsafe. Again, a thing of the past. Hostels today are clean, and fall under whatever local bylaws govern hotels, cafes and restaurants for standards of sanitation and food safety. In fact, most hostels would be awarded 2 to many as 4 stars if they were hotels. As for safety, the vast majority of hostels have 24 hour receptionists, security cameras, pass keys, secure luggage storage, private lockers, and everything else in use at hotels charging much more per night.

Below are a list of countries. Under each will be added hostels where travelers can stay for an affordable price. If you know of a hostel that should be listed, please contact us.

Vagabond

Vagabond Travel came into being April 16, 2014 when I departed Canada heading for Mexico City. I have no destination in mind, nor an itinerary to follow. This is a sort of website, journal and travel blog all rolled into one. That's about it.
